BJP Appoints Satish Poonia as Jammu and Kashmir In-Charge, Reena Kashyap as Co-In-Charge

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday announced a nationwide organisational reshuffle, appointing Satish Poonia as the party’s in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir and Reena Kashyap as co-in-charge.

The appointments were part of a larger exercise covering 36 states and Union Territories ahead of the 2027 Assembly election cycle.

Poonia, a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan, has also been given charge of Punjab. He was relieved of his previous responsibility for Haryana.

Poonia is a national general secretary of the BJP. He previously served as the party’s Rajasthan unit president.

Reena Kashyap represents the Pachhad Assembly constituency in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. She was first elected to the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the Pachhad by-election in 2019 and retained the seat in the 2022 Assembly election.

Kashyap is a postgraduate in History. She was associated with All India Radio and Doordarshan before taking up full-time political and organisational responsibilities.

According to a party press note, Kashyap will work alongside Poonia in coordinating organisational activities in the Union Territory.

Her appointment gives a Himachal Pradesh BJP leader a significant organisational role outside the state.

The reshuffle was announced by BJP president Nitin Nabin. Several senior leaders were given charge of more than one state.

Newly appointed national general secretary Smriti Irani has been assigned Haryana and Chhattisgarh.

New vice president Ram Madhav has been given charge of Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu.

Party strategist Sunil Bansal will oversee West Bengal and Telangana.

National general secretary Harish Dwivedi has been given charge of Bihar and Karnataka.

In another significant appointment for the region, Sanjay Bhatia has been named in-charge for Ladakh.

The appointments take effect immediately.
