AICC Approves Political Affairs and Disciplinary Panels for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh

The All India Congress Committee on Thursday approved the constitution of Political Affairs Committees and Disciplinary Action Committees for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The lists were released by AICC general secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal on Thursday evening, according to party officials.

The Political Affairs Committee for Jammu and Kashmir will be chaired by Dr Syed Naseer Hussain, who serves as AICC general secretary in-charge of the region.

The panel includes Tariq Hameed Karra, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, and Ghulam Ahmed Mir, the Congress Legislature Party leader and AICC general secretary.

Other members include Vikar Rasool Wani, a Congress Working Committee member, and Prof Saifuddin Soz, a former Union minister.

The committee also comprises former Speaker Tara Chand and JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla.

Former Members of Parliament Ch Lal Singh and T S Bajwa are part of the panel, along with senior leaders Mula Ram, Taj Mohiuddin, and Nizamuddin Bhat.

The full list includes Raman Mattoo, G M Saroori, Babu Jagjeevan Lal, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Shabir Ahmed Khan, and Abdul Majid Wani.

Other members are Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Thakur Balbir Singh, Ravinder Sharma, Bashir Ahmed Magray, Jehangir Hussain Mir, Yashpal Kundal, and Haji Abdul Rashid Dar.

The committee also includes Indu Pawar, Ashok Kumar Dogra, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Ved Mahajan, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Irfan Hafiz Lone, and Iftikhar Ahmed.

AICC secretaries attached to Jammu and Kashmir, national heads of frontal organisations from the region, state heads of frontal organisations in J&K, and former AICC office bearers from Jammu and Kashmir will serve as ex-officio members.

For the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Political Affairs Committee will also be headed by Dr Syed Naseer Hussain as AICC general secretary in-charge of both J&K and Ladakh.

The panel includes Nawang Rigzin Jora as president, along with Asgar Ali Karbalai and Haji Nissar Ali.

Other members are Ghulam Mohd Raza, Capt Tashi Chhepal, Nasir Hussain Munshi, and Kacho Mohd Feroz.

The committee further comprises Tsering Namgyal, Zakir Hussain, Tsering Angchuk, Sonam Tsering, and Abdul Hadi.

Smanla Dorje, Phuntsong Stanzin, and Rigzin Tsering are also members of the Ladakh panel.

AICC secretaries attached to the UT of Ladakh and heads of frontal organisations in the UT will be members of this committee.

The Disciplinary Action Committee for Jammu and Kashmir comprises Bashir Ahmed Magrey, Thakur Balbir Singh, T S Bajwa, Jehangir Hussain Mir, and Ashok Dogra.

For Ladakh, the Disciplinary Action Committee includes Haji Nissar Ali, Ghulam Mohd Raza, Nasir Hussain Munshi, Lhundup Dorjay, and Capt (Retd) Tashi Chhepal.

The constitution of these panels follows an internal enquiry into organisational matters in the region.

In June, the AICC had constituted a three-member enquiry committee to look into reported cases of indiscipline and anti-party activities in the Jammu and Kashmir unit.

That panel was headed by Shaktisinh Gohil as convenor, with Dr Amar Singh and Rafeek Khan as members.

The earlier enquiry was ordered by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge with immediate effect, as per an order issued by K C Venugopal.

The move came amid internal differences within the Jammu and Kashmir Congress unit.

The new committees for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh take effect immediately, according to the AICC release.
